The experience

How it works

Four simple steps — and your business never touches the hard parts. We handle the logistics, washing, and tracking behind the scenes.

Step 1

Borrow

A customer takes their order in a reusable container — just like normal packaging.

Step 2

Use

They enjoy it anywhere. No deposit friction, no behavior change required.

Step 3

Return

They drop it at any return point in the network — not just where they got it. Every item is tracked.

Step 4

Receive

You get clean, ready-to-use inventory back. No washing. No sorting. We handle everything.

What you'll hand customers

Meet the containers

A growing library of reusable formats, built for real food-service use — more added as the network grows.

Founding Partner Program

Why become a founding partner

$1,000

Your launch is funded — join at no upfront cost

Seattle Public Utilities is providing launch funding of up to $1,000 per location for founding partners, so you can join the pilot without paying to get started.

Pilot launch funding through Reuse Seattle — program details being finalized, and support is limited.

The founding group is small on purpose — and being one of the first businesses in the network comes with real advantages.

Only 50 founding spots

Subsidized launch is limited to 50 businesses across the launch neighborhoods — first come, first served.

Help shape the solution

Founding partners get a direct say in how reuse works in Seattle — container types, return points, and how it runs.

No operational change

We manage returns, washing, sorting, and tracking. You just hand customers a better container.

Attract sustainability-minded customers

Be a visibly greener choice in your neighborhood — without greenwashing.

Cost-competitive with single-use

Designed to compete with what you spend today on disposables and waste hauling.

Founding-partner status

Featured at launch, early customer visibility, and preferred pricing locked in as the network grows.

A city-backed effort

Built for Seattle, together

This isn't a startup cold-calling — it's a coordinated effort to make reuse part of everyday life in Seattle, backed by the city's own reuse program.

Questions

Frequently asked

A few of the questions we hear most from businesses considering the network.

How does it work day-to-day for my business?
You hand customers their order in a reusable container, just like normal packaging — minimal training, no extra steps for your staff. Behind the scenes, we handle collection, washing, sorting, and tracking, and return clean, ready-to-use inventory to you.
Who washes and manages the containers?
We do. Through our MOSAIC platform and shared logistics partners, containers are collected from return points across the network, cleaned, and cycled back to participating businesses. You never wash, sort, or count — that's the whole point of joining a network instead of going it alone.
Is there a cost to join?
Founding partners can join at no upfront cost, thanks to launch funding of up to $1,000 per location from Seattle Public Utilities. The ongoing program is designed to be cost-competitive with what you already spend on single-use packaging and waste hauling. (Funding details are being finalized — we'll walk you through the specifics when we follow up.)
What is the $1,000 launch funding?
Through Reuse Seattle, Seattle Public Utilities is providing pilot funding to help founding businesses launch without paying to get started. Details are being finalized and support is limited — which is part of why founding spots are capped.
How many businesses can join?
The founding group is limited to 50 businesses across the launch selected neighborhoods (South Lake Union, Belltown, lower Queen Anne, Columbia Center, Seattle Center). Spots are first-come, first-served, and once they're gone the founding window closes.
Do I have to switch all my packaging at once?
No. You can start with a portion of your volume — for example, a single item type — and grow from there. We phase it in alongside what you already do, so there's no disruptive all-at-once switchover.
What branding is used on the reusable containers?
A program level Borrow Anywhere, Return Anywhere brand is used during the pilot. Founding partners will have the opportunity to provide input to post pilot branding design.
How long is the pilot period?
The initial pilot is expected to be 3-6 months.
What if customers don't return the containers?
Because it's a network, returns don't depend on your location alone — customers can drop a container at any participating business or return point in the neighborhood. Every item is digitally tracked, and the system is designed to keep containers circulating.
What's expected of me as a founding partner?
Offer reusable containers to your customers as a default, share feedback from the field, and help us shape how the program works. Founding partners have a real voice in the design — from container types to return points.
Who is behind the program?
BARA is led by 99Bridges — powered by our MOSAIC reuse platform — in partnership with Reuse Seattle, a Seattle Public Utilities program.
